April Currently!

Tuesday, April 1, 2014
I can't believe it's already April!  (Miraculously, I didn't get "April Fooled" today.)  I have no idea where the past three months disappeared to!  I'm kind of glad they're over, because I have a lot to look forward to this year!  (Including a trip to London and all over Germany over Christmas!  I'm already counting down the days!)

Here's what I'm up to at the moment:

1. Listening: I'm not usually a fan of singing shows, but I've been sucked into The Voice this season.  (Although I really thought I'd be a bigger fan of American Idol...I adore Harry Connick, Jr.)  There are some incredibly amazing people on the show this season, but I'm totally Team Stevie Jo.  I haven't watched in a couple of weeks, but I couldn't miss my love Chris Martin!  Who doesn't love Coldplay???

2. Loving: I love technology.  And music.  SO MUCH.

3. Thinking: I have a feeling you're thinking the same thing as me.  Hurry up, Friday!  (And Spring Break...mine is super late this year!)

4. Wanting: I could smell those things all day long. MMMMMMM.  Except for the licorice one.  I could do without it.

5. Needing: I've recently created a new TPT product, and I have so many ideas planned.  But since this is so new to me, I have no idea how everyone manages to teach, and create, and live!  And eat.  Wow.  I get so caught up in creating, I forget to eat sometimes.  Oops.

6. Hours and Last Day: My hours at work tend to vary, and my last day is June 19th!

I can't wait to read what you guys are up to!  Have a great April!

Happy Teaching!

Um...Happy Belated Birthday? (And a freebie!)

Soooo...way back at the beginning of March, my littles and I celebrated the birth of Dr. Seuss.  We planned to read his books, drink hot chocolate, bring in stuffed animals, and wear cozy slippers.  When the actual day arrived, there was a "massive" (for here, at least) rain storm, which pretty much put a damper on our hopes and dreams for the day.  (Ha! See what I did there?)  Slippers were not an option.  However, we did use some Seuss photo props for a classroom photo booth (found here!).  It was adorbs.  I was in LOVE!

One of my favorite Dr. Seuss books is Oh, the Places You'll Go!  I love this book for a million and one reasons, but mostly to motivate my kids and get them thinking about their goals for the future.  While I was online looking for some fresh new ideas to do with the kids this year, I found this AMAZING activity.  I totally want to give credit to:

My kids had so much fun with this!  I asked them to write about their goals from now until college, and beyond.  Their parents saw these during conferences, and they all said it will be really fun to look back on it when their kids are older.  (I can just imagine the conversations: "Be nice to your brother, huh?  How's that working out for you?")

This one is, by far, my personal fave:

Get a girlfriend!  This kid is awesome.

So, while I can't take any credit for this project, I did create something to use with my kids to map out the rest of our lives first (sounds serious).  This page can be used on it's own, or as a brainstorming activity before you do the above project.  I'm offering it as a freebie on my TPT store!  I'd love for you to check it out!  Get it here.

Even though it's super late to do this as a Seuss/Read Across America activity, I have to say that I wish I kept it for a beginning or end of the year activity.  There are so many different ways you can use this, and I hope that it's helpful to some of you!  And now I feel like I need to send the Seuss family some birthday flowers and a gift card.  I promise I'll be better next year!

Happy Teaching!
